How we detect connection types
- VPN / Proxy: Data from upstream providers (ip-api.com proxy flag) + organization heuristics.
- Tor: Known exit node patterns + ISP naming. For production use, integrate the official Tor bulk exit list.
- Hosting / Datacenter: Common cloud providers (AWS, GCP, DigitalOcean, Hetzner, OVH, etc.).
Detection is probabilistic. Sophisticated residential proxies can be difficult to identify with 100% certainty.
